¿Cómo proponer cambios de paradigmas sociales a través del diseño? Un ejemplo de entre muchos, puede ser el diseño de la nueva guitarra de St. Vincent para Ernie Ball Music Man.
Annie Clark conocida también como St. Vincent, es una multi-instrumentalista compositora de pop rock quien recientemente colaboró en el diseño de esta guitarra, que pretende mediante su diseño formal y un discurso abanderado por ella misma, empoderar a la mujer para tocar un instrumento como este y todo lo que implica poder hacerlo...
La guitarra con cuerpo de caoba estilizado y cuello de palo de rosa, tiene un peso de 7 libras cuando las normales pesan alrededor de las 10 libras. Es un poco más pequeña que las guitarras comunes y su forma permite tocarse tanto sentada como parada, con una curva a medio cuerpo que da espacio al busto a la hora de tocar. Es un poco como combinar una común Stratocaster con las guitarras ‘modernistas’ de alrededor de los 60s de Gibson, como la Explorer y la Moderne, con un acabado azul-plateado muy al estilo de un Corvette 70ero.
Como ella lo dice, “una guitarra puede ser un escudo, un arma, un vehículo a través del cual ella ha logrado darle un increíble fin artístico y emocional a su vida”. Puede ser un oportunidad también para ver más ‘frontwomen’ en bandas de cualquier tipo; equilibrar más una industria que como muchas otras, ha estado dominada por el sexo masculino. Obviamente no solo con la dimensión formal están mandando el mensaje, ya que el lanzamiento de la guitarra viene acompañado de un discurso narrativo que apoya y fortalece la propuesta que hace.
¿Un move con fines mercadológicos? Lo más probable, pero vaya, si les funciona para vender y muchas niñas crecen tocando una guitara como esa, probablemente su futuro se vea influenciado de alguna u otra manera para romper uno que otro paradigma.
